Hey Sew Sister - ODETTE 🦢 - Screen Printed Cotton Twill (See Info)
Sold by the half metre.
Odette is a pretty print designed by Georgie exclusively for Hey Sew Sister. Elegant swans adorned with burgundy, pink, green and blue bows sit on a classic dark navy blue background printed onto a cotton twill fabric.
The fabric is lightweight with a smooth and fluid handle. It has the tight diagonal weave characteristic of twill and has a luxurious, almost suede-like texture. It is best used for garments such as trousers, tops, smocks, dresses, jumpsuits, etc that require a lightweight, drapey yet stable fabric. ✨See pattern ideas below✨ For a slightly more rustic yet stable fabric, you might wish to check out our same print but on lightweight cotton linen blend. The print translates as slightly deeper in colour on the cotton twill due to its tighter weave. It comes out a little more relaxed and rustic looking (but still vivid) on the looser weave cotton linen blend.
Screen printing is a manual process and in this case, carried out by skilled artisans in Jaipur. After I had completed my design, the team produced the stencils required and then got to work with the fabric and ink. Due to the nature of hand printing techniques, please expect irregularities and imperfections which unless major will not be considered defects. There may also be some mud marks on the selvedge due to the rinsing process. In my opinion they add to the charm and remind me that the fabric was printed by man (or woman) rather than by machine!
PLEASE NOTE: For some unknown reason, the design was printed across the grain rather than down the grain (in other words, horizontally rather than vertically as is normally the case with printed fabric). As this is a stable and wide width dressmaking fabric, I have not found this to affect the handle, the cutting or the meterage required for my projects but please bear this in mind anyway!

Other pattern ideas include: Delft Dress by Madswick, Daily Dress by Cayden Naughton, Skyline Dress by Sydney Graham, Farmers Market Set by Genuinely Em, Aspen Dress by Fabric Godmother, Bernadette Skirt by Friday Pattern Company, Sienna Trousers by NH Patterns.
